How to plan a live surprise

A name glowing on the big screen at exactly the right moment can make someone's day. It takes about ten minutes to prepare. Here's how to do it step by step, whether it's a midnight birthday, a wedding entry or a result day at the office.

Step by step

1. Choose the moment. The best surprises happen when everyone is in one room and looking up: midnight on the birthday, the cake cutting, the couple's entry at the reception, or the evening pooja. Note the time you want it to appear.
2. Decide: free post or Priority Window. A free post is shown for up to 5 minutes and shares the board with other people's posts, so it's great for a quick wish. A Priority Window gives you the whole board: only your posts, from 15 minutes up to 24 hours, with photos and a song. Payments are checked by hand, so pay 15 to 20 minutes before your moment.
3. Write the message. Put the name first and keep each line short, for example "Happy Birthday Riya 🎂" and then "From Mummy, Papa and Rohan ❤️". Check the spelling of the name twice. Our birthday, wedding and anniversary and festival pages have ready-made wishes in Hindi and English.
4. Pick a texture and an effect. In the board's controls, choose how the text looks (Gold, Rose Gold, Neon Pink and 27 more) and how it moves (Heartbeat, Bounce, Float and 47 more). The small preview shows how it will look.
5. Add a photo (optional). Use the Image tab for a photo on its own, or during a Priority Window attach one to your text. Only use photos you're allowed to share. Every image is checked automatically before it appears, and if the check isn't available at that moment the image isn't posted, so don't leave it to the last second.
6. Add a song (Priority Window). Paste a YouTube link, and the song plays in a small player on the board while your post is shown.
7. Put the board on the big screen. Open dilseaaj.com on a laptop connected to the TV (HDMI), in your smart TV's browser, or cast the browser tab from your phone or computer. Tap Tap to Enter Live Board, then View Board. On a laptop, press F11 for full screen.
8. Invite the family who can't be there. Send them the link. Everyone who opens the board sees the same posts live, wherever they are.
9. Catch the reaction. Ask someone to film the room, not just the screen. Faces are the best part.

If something doesn't go to plan

"The board is reserved"

Someone else's Priority Window is live, and only their posts are shown until it ends. The message tells you roughly how long. You can wait, or get your own window, which starts after the windows already confirmed.

"Our image safety check isn't available right now"

Images are only published after the automatic check has run. Try again in a few minutes, or post your text now and the photo later.

There's no sound

Browsers block sound until you tap the page. Tap the small music player in the corner to start it. If you closed it, tap Play music.

My Priority Window hasn't started

We check each payment by hand and aim to do it within 5 to 10 minutes. The board shows a message while your payment is being checked. If it's taking long, write to advertise@dilseaaj.com with your payment's UTR number.
